We are a family Business and run by Chris and Jane Townsend and helped along by our middle daughter Rhea.
Cash Save was established back in May 1984 by ‘Mum & Dad’ “Chris & Bobbie Townsend’ together with my brother Neil we traded from North Street, Bedminster, Bristol. Over the years we established ourselves as a good alternative to the DIY superstores by offering excellent customer service and very competitive prices.
We became founder members of Mica Hardware a new trading group during 1996 (Like minded independent hardware stores marketing themselves together to compete with the influx of large out of town DIY superstores)
Hence we became Cash Save Mica Hardware.
During 2000 ‘Mum & Dad’ retired after over 40years in the trade they’re enjoying a much deserved retirement although it has been known for Dad to get involved in the odd painting job for us. The business reigns were passed to me, Neil, and our two wives, Jane and Jeanette.
In 2001 we expanded the business by purchasing the Business of ‘Chorley’s’ a family run Hardware store in Backwell, just outside of Bristol. This brought with it new challenges and new product lines to deal with including Gas, Coal, Composts, Aggregates, Sheds and Summerhouses etc
April 2004 we expanded once again by purchasing the business of Harris’s another family run hardware store in Winterbourne, north Bristol. This store gave us yet another new product line of pet food supplies a previously untapped market for us.
Sadly we had to sell our Bedminster store for redevelopment in 2005. This store has now been rebuilt as flats and yet another Tesco Express. (The onward march of Tesco continues unabated!)
Neil and Jeanette decided to leave the business in May 2009 to pursue other interests; I and Jane wish them well for the future after many years working together they are certainly missed.
Cash Save has now been trading for over 26 years but me and Jane still aim to retain our personal service and the friendly feel of a family business, we are passionate that small businesses have a place in this world but also must move with the times.
Selling sheds on-line is a further development; we feel that initially containing this service to just the Bristol area enables us to personally supervise the delivery and assembly (if required). Supplying a quality product that gives the customer confidence that they are purchasing from a reputable firm where they can talk to us or better still pay us a visit.
